The Sun

For a long time, the night had become my only company.

I had been trapped in the eeriness of a silver moon.

A starless sky, the kind of comfort that was cruel and harsh,

I hated the darkness, but I was alone and foreign to the daylight.

The abyss of an ending more like home.

One foot over the edge of suffering.

And then there was you.

A delicate trail of sunlight amongst the shadow of desperation.

A soft glow in a shivering stance.

My sun to battle my nights.

I did not realise at the time that the rooms were getting brighter

.I did not realise how much i needed the light.

I used to be lost and lonely,

And then the warmth of you healed the cold of me

and the hug of your voice said:

“We’ll be alright.”

(this poem was inspired completely by my friend Selina, so thank you to her for helping me create one of my favourite pieces!)
